Egypt has been rapidly expanding and modernizing its electric power infrastructure to support industrial growth, urbanization, and regional power interconnections. The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) initiated multiple 220kV and 500kV transmission line projects to enhance capacity and reliability.
These projects required high-performance overhead conductors capable of carrying large loads over long spans in harsh desert environments. Uni-Cable was selected to supply ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) and ACSS (Aluminum Conductor Steel-Supported) conductors, along with matching accessories, for critical sections of Egypt’s high-voltage grid expansion.
Conductor Sizes: ACSR Zebra 54/7, ACSR Moose 54/7, ACSR Drake 26/7
Conductor Material: Hard-drawn aluminum (1350-H19) + galvanized steel core
Voltage Class: 220kV & 500kV transmission lines
Key Features: High tensile strength, economical, reliable for long-span overhead lines
Conductor Sizes: ACSS Drake, ACSS Grosbeak, ACSS Pheasant
Conductor Material: Fully annealed aluminum strands + high-strength steel core
Operating Temperature: Up to 250°C continuous without sagging issues
Key Features: Ideal for reconductoring existing lines with higher ampacity, reduced thermal sag, and longer service life
Compression Dead-End & Suspension Clamps
Splicing Sleeves & Repair Sleeves
Armor Rods & Spacer Dampers
Vibration Dampers for desert wind conditions
New Line Construction: ACSR Zebra and Moose conductors were used for 220kV new transmission lines between Cairo and Upper Egypt.
Grid Reinforcement: ACSS Drake was deployed for reconductoring 500kV lines near the Aswan–Cairo corridor, where existing lines needed increased ampacity without tower replacement.
Desert Environment Adaptation: Conductors were designed with corrosion-resistant galvanization and optimized for thermal sag control under high ambient temperatures.
System Reliability: Matching accessories ensured seamless installation and long-term stability in sandy and windy conditions.
Uni-Cable followed strict international and Egyptian grid standards for manufacturing and testing:
Standards: IEC 61089, ASTM B232/B232M, ASTM B856/B857, EETC specifications
Electrical Testing: DC resistance of conductor, corona performance, ampacity rating
Mechanical Testing: Tensile strength, elongation, stress-strain characteristics
Environmental Testing: High-temperature sag test, corrosion resistance in salt fog chamber
Certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Type Test Reports from independent labs
Packaging: Heavy-duty wooden/steel reinforced drums for long-length conductors
Protection: Moisture-proof wrapping to withstand marine transport and desert storage
Marking: Each drum marked with conductor type, standard, batch number, and QR code traceability
Shipment: Exported via Port of Alexandria, with staged delivery to match EETC’s project phases
