Product Parameters and Structure
Product Specifications
Uni-Cable’s BS5308 Instrument Cables are available in Part 1 (single-core cables) and Part 2 (multi-core cables) configurations, tailored for different types of signal transmission in industrial and control systems.

BS5308 Part 1 – Single-Core Instrument Cable:
Conductor Material: Tinned copper or bare copper.
Insulation Material: PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) or LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) for high fire resistance and minimal smoke emission.
Nominal Voltage Rating: 300/500V.
Insulation Thickness: Varies from 0.8mm to 1.2mm, based on the conductor size and application.
Outer Sheath Material: PVC or LSZH for additional protection against mechanical damage and environmental conditions.
Conductor Size: 1.5mm² to 4mm², depending on the current carrying capacity and application.
Temperature Range: -20°C to +70°C for standard PVC insulation; -20°C to +85°C for LSZH versions.

BS5308 Part 2 – Multi-Core Instrument Cable:
Conductor Material: Tinned copper or bare copper.
Insulation Material: PVC or LSZH.
Number of Cores: 2 to 24 cores, depending on the customer’s specific requirements.
Nominal Voltage Rating: 300/500V.
Overall Screen: Copper or aluminum wire braid for protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Sheath Material: PVC, PE, or LSZH.
Temperature Range: -20°C to +70°C (PVC), -20°C to +85°C (LSZH).
Insulation Thickness: Typically ranges from 0.8mm to 1.5mm.

Cable Structure:
Conductor: The conductor is made from high-quality copper for excellent conductivity. Tinned copper is often chosen to prevent corrosion and ensure longer cable life, especially in harsh environments.
Insulation: The insulation material (PVC or LSZH) is chosen based on the specific needs of the project. PVC provides excellent flexibility and cost-effectiveness, while LSZH offers higher fire resistance and lower toxicity in the event of a fire.
Filler and Inner Sheath: Multi-core cables are filled with an appropriate material to maintain the round shape of the cable. The inner sheath ensures protection of the individual cores and provides additional insulation.
Screening (for Part 2 – Multi-Core Cables): A copper or aluminum wire braid is used for the screening of multi-core cables. This screen provides protection against external electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensures that the signal integrity is maintained.
Outer Sheath: The outer sheath is made from PVC or LSZH and provides mechanical protection for the cables. It also ensures that the cable can withstand environmental stresses such as UV exposure, chemicals, and abrasion.
